ABOUT THE FILM:
‘A Scandal in your Tap’: An investigation into water fluoridation in Ireland: the history, the human health effects and the ongoing effort to end a practice which has been banned across Europe. Journalist Siobhán Tanner travels the length and breath of the country, meeting with the advocates and opponents of water fluoridation, seeking answers to the question; ‘Is the water in your tap safe’? Shot in 2014, at the height of the fluoride-free campaign which failed to end fluoridation, this bilingual film (English and Irish with subtitles) was deemed too controversial to air by TG4 and has remained unpublished until now.
Made by sisters Irene (filmmaker) and Siobhán Tanner (journalist) from the Ring (An Rinn) Gaeltacht in Co. Waterford, the programme is now being screened to rally again the opposition to this dated and dangerous practice. Irene and Siobhán will be present for a Q&A and lively discussion about public water fluoridation and ongoing efforts to end it.
