John Stanley is a graduate of NUIG, whose PhD was on biological nitrogen fixation. He held scientific positions in Montreal and Geneva prior to leading a research group for the Dept. of Health in London for over a decade. He now works in complementary medicine (applied kinesiology & NLP), has a major ongoing interest in climate change,
and blogs for Huffington Post.
In the year leading up to the Copenhagen climate conference, John edited the book ‘A Buddhist Response to the Climate Emergency’, featuring chapters by the Dalai Lama and other spiritual leaders. He and his wife Diane also started an activist website, Ecobuddhism (www.ecobuddhism.org). The goal of these projects was bring together
the 3 elements of progressive climate science, solutions (breakthrough technologies and ideas) and spiritual wisdom. The website has continued to grow and evolve over the last 3 years. Readership has increased steadily & rose by a further 20% in 2011, to an average of
5830 hits a day.
John will discuss take-home findings from these projects of interest to environmentalists in general, including building resiliency and inspiration in a world in upheaval.
