This course is being given by Suzie Cahn who has a great deal of experience in Permaculture.
‘Permaculture is an approach to designing human settlements and agricultural systems that is modeled on the relationships found in nature. How to do an Element Analysis to find beneficial relationships in a garden
Permaculture and Organics a growing edge
Permaculture Design Process- including zones, sectors and slope.
ABOUT SUZIE CAHN:
Suzie Cahn has been growing vegetables all her life and first started teaching nature awareness and organic growing principals 16 years ago in schools as a volunteer while still working as an art therapist, artist and community arts facilitator. She and her family travelled around Europe as wwoofers for a year in 2004 learning new skills before finding their Co Wicklow small holding which they set up as Carraig Dúlra Permaculture and Organic Learning Centre. For the last 6 years Suzie has been a catalyst for a community garden network, GIY groups, and local transition initiatives. Along with her husband, she has helped develop OOOOBY (out of our own back yard), a community food hub. Suzie has taught Permaculture with Wicklow VEC Community Education and recently with Greenworks Dublin and Cloughjordan Hubs.
Logistics for the day:
We will start at 10 am sharp in the Spirit Centre, Nun’s Island. We aim to be finished by 5pm.We will share a lunch together around 1pm, and encourage everyone to bring some food and snacks to share such as salads, breads, desserts, biscuits, teas, all is good, but please keep it vegetarian as it is the general policy of the venue that have been kindly offered to us by the Spirit Centre people. Coralie will make a big Vegetable spicy indian stew with lots of Organic vegetables from Green Earth Organics farm to share with everyone, Mary will bring along some rice and couscous. If everyone brings something along we will have enough to share between everyone 🙂 There is water tap at the centre and a kettle to make tea, but please do bring tea bags and other drinks you might want for the day.And also, if everyone could bring their own bowl, cup and cutlery, that would be great so as to minimise the use of disposable stuff, this being a Permaculture workshop I’m sure you can only agree with the old ReUse idea.It’s probably also a good idea to bring warm clothes and wellies, but those will have to come off inside the Spirit Centre room!
